“Everything starts out looking like a toy” (No.6)
A newsletter of small observations at the intersection of data and systems.
Welcome! This week, I’ve been thinking about how “near-work” communities on Slack and WhatsApp expand the possibilities of where to get information. You have more support than you know, if you ask for it. This is edition No. 6, coming at you on August 8, 2020.
This Week’s Idea
Did you know? There has been more change in the retail ecommerce market in the last few months than in the previous 10 years. What’s the takeaway? Both direct to consumer businesses and traditional businesses now (or soon) have ecommerce as their primary sales motion, not as a secondary channel.

Links to Read and Share
These are links that caught my eye.
1/ Use your iPhone as a webcam - If you’ve got an iPhone, you’ve got a high-quality option for a webcam. Try Camo to get an easy HD/almost 4k option. Here’s what it looks like.
2/ Regex, explained - Regular Expressions can be extraordinarily geeky - it’s a way to select for a pattern of text and match it anywhere. This utility deconstructs a RegEx and explains it in english.
3/ See systems in action - Loopy is a way to simulate systems and interactions. Try it to test a hypothesis, model a current system, or just try something new.
